I gave everyone a couple of days to read that real "wall of text." To those of you that had to guts to read it, you will never complain about the length of my posts again. Ten paragraphs compared to that article looks like I'm doing snippets. Now, to the meat of the message:
Most people pro or con admit that a Constitutional Convention is years down the road, if at all. It's been going on most of my voting life. The Equal Rights Amendment began in the 1970s. It has one more state to go. Half a century is a bit too long to wait for anything. But, you will have to decide how long you want to wait. At least you have the facts.
I would not sign onto any such convention. While the naysayers can say critics are ignorant, my half a century of experience watching the political pendulum swing back and forth says that IF such a convention were held, the powers that be would filibuster, strong arm, and get every Right you have or ever will have up for review by hook or crook. It's a gamble I wouldn't take. According to the article:
"Right-wing organizations such as the John Birch Society oppose a convention out of fear that it could open the door to weakening constitutional rights. So does Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, a staunch Trump defender who wrote an entire book, "The Con of the Con-Con," about the dangers of conventions."
On the issues, I would NOT support a Constitutional Convention for the purpose of term limits. We have term limits every election cycle. Back when Trump ran all you heard was Make America Great Again. If you want to repeat the success you had before, duplicate that. Don't try to fix one bad decision with another. The United States screwed up with the direct election of U.S. Senators made possible by the 17th Amendment. We don't fix that mistake by limiting who you can vote for. How do you think that Bill Clinton and Barack Obama came into power? It was a term limit. As a constitutionalist, I can never support destroying the Republic and doing it further harm by throwing gasoline on a fire.
Let me level with you. The United States went from Declaration of Independence to Constitution of the United States in eleven years. We drafted The Charter and Proclamation of the Rights of Man. The road I am urging you to take is quicker and you won't be trusting RINOs who are Democrats in disguise. Read this board. You will learn that the left has been easily flipping the right for the last quarter of a century. An older person that was in the John Birch Society would not recognize a modern right winger as being on the same team. On many issues, the right has done a 180 degree turn from the patriots of the past. I don't trust those people; don't trust their process; can see they have no real agenda save of changing some issues here and there to suit themselves without an understanding of the cost to other Liberties.
