"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3: 16
No Scripture in the Holy Bible has been more misrepresented than John 3: 16. Based upon that verse some have found novel ways to distort, malign, and paganize the Holy Bible. Many in America think all you have to do is believe and you will go to Heaven when you pass. I've even been to many a funeral wherein someone would say so and so is looking down on us laughing and having a good time, free from this world - or some similar words to that effect. It's about time to get this straight:
We are not all God's children; there are those who were cursed and they have an innate trait that keeps them at war with the God of the Bible. We are still bound by God's laws and the only "law" that was abolished was the need to do animal sacrifices. No animal sacrifice could ever compete with God giving his only Son for you and I. That act absolutely did not do away with the law. That is part one. Now let me talk about that word "whosoever" in John 3: 16
When I was a kid families had to communicate many times with words written in longhand on paper and put into envelopes sent through the U.S. Mail. There were common greetings for personal relationships as well as business dealings. There were families that were separated due to a host of circumstances at that time and we didn't always have access to telephones; the Internet didn't exist; nobody had ever heard of e mail. So, we wrote letters. It would be standard language that, when a family wrote a letter back home, it was written to all the family members. Someone might end the letter (or maybe say it somewhere in the body of the letter) with words to the effect of "I love you all." Now, when you say that in a letter that statement could not be used to claim that "all of you" was inclusive of the whole world. It was intended for the family. That is it.
If we start in Genesis 5:1 the Bible states: "This is the book of the generations of Adam." Nowhere in the entire Bible does it claim to be a book about the people of anybody outside of Adam. Funny thing too. We see that word "generations" as used in Genesis. That word, if you research the translation is about family descent, birth, generations and offspring. Even today we use that word gene to denote specific building blocks in a person's biological make up. As such the Bible doesn't claim to be about anyone other than the family of Adam. And the entire book of Genesis is all about who begat whom.
To answer the ONE WORLD RELIGION people selling you on multiculturalism, just because God has a chosen (elect) does not mean that non-Israelites cannot accept Christ. However, they worship God as Creator God whereas biblical Israel worships God as a Covenant God. The whosoever in John 3: 16 refers to the descendants of Abraham - Isaac - Jacob / Israel. The entire Bible is written to, for and about a people called Israel. Furthermore, believing is more than just acceptance of God's Word. It is doing what God commands us to do (like obey the law.) For proof of that we will stick to the book of John. In the 8th Chapter of John, God is having a discourse with the scribes and Pharisees (aka Jews.) Those people are making a false claim to being Israelites. Jesus responds: "39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 41 Ye do the deeds of your father" John 8: 39 By the way you might want to back up to verse 34 and see these words, spoken by Jesus: "Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin." So much for that garbage that we're no longer under the law.
But where are we going with this? What does writing a letter in the pre-Internet days have to do with this? In the Bible, it is addressed to the Israelites. Consider a few verses:
"But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel" Matthew 14: 24
"who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;" Romans 9: 4
"James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting." James 1: 1
This was not given to the world; it was given to a specific people. So why did God so love the world?
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Matthew 13: 10 and 11
38 the field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. Matthew 13: 38 (Read the entire chapter for context; I'm only citing the relevant answer.
God loved the world for the sake of His people. It is inconsistent to and dishonest to think that God now accepts sin or the sons of Devils as equals among those whose job it is to set the standard for the rest of the world.
