The government regulates that cars must have all these advanced safety features instead of allowing the consumer to buy as he wants. If he wants to be safer then he can get those things optionally. By forcing car makers to install these things increases the price of new cars. How does this make driving less safe and less fuel-efficient? Price.
New cars because of all these forced features are super expensive now, forcing people to hold on to their old cars that do not have these features or the new fuel-efficient cleaner running engines. Making the majority of cars on the road less safe and less fuel-efficient and thus driving the price of gas up even higher. In a free market, if there is a demand for such things then the automakers will bring it to you for a fraction of the price due to in order to be competitive. But government forces these regulations and forces us to pay for them even though our personal safety is none of their business.
I want to drive a big gas-guzzling Ford F150 with no seatbelts and a shotgun mounted on the back window so that I can blow and carjacker straight to Hell and I and willing to pay for the gas. Stay out of my personal life, government.
